Variety: 50% Mencia – 50% Grenache
Region: McLaren Vale
Mencia is a new variety to Australia This Spanish variety (also cultivated in Portugal and known there as Jaen) is an emerging variety and is well suited to our region. This is our first vintage for the Mencia and we are excited with its future at Ivybrook for the ability to ripen early and its potential tolerance to heat and drought.
The Grenache is grown by Rod Tavener at their Tatachilla vineyard in Mclaren Vale.
Hand-made at Ivybrook Farm winery.
Ivybrook Mencía grapes, McLaren Vale Grenache all hand-picked.
The small batch of Mencia was 100% whole bunch and gently foot trod and the Grenache wild fermented in an open-top tank, gentle hand plunge only 10 days on skins, then pressed to barrel for malolactic fermentation and maturation.
Matured for 4 months in 100% French oak.
Bottled July 2021. Vegan friendly, Minimal Sulphites.
No fining and minimal filtration are used.
Mencia 50%/ Grenache 50%.
The lovely flowery aromas of strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate and cherry sauce of this blend entices the senses.
On the palate you’ll be greeted with peppery flavors of sour cherry, red currant a soft savoury finish and fine tannins.
