2022 Ivybrook Farm Tempranillo

$34.00

Tasting Notes

Tempranillo is a slightly rustic, northern Spanish variety that can produce a savoury, flavoursome wine.

2022 was a mild growing season gave us a wine with some good acidity and balanced structure. 15% whole bunch, wild indigenous ferment, completely natural wine aged in French oak for 9 months before bottling.

Characteristic dark cherry with aromas of graphite, cedar and flavours of plums and dried herbs. Medium to full bodied in weight with fine grained mature tannins.

A very food friendly wine!

Vintage: 2022
Variety: Tempranillo

The grapes from our vineyard are all handpicked in the early morning and fermented in a half tonne fermenter where it was hand plunged 2-3 times daily. No yeast is added so it undergoes a “wild ferment”, maceration on skins occuring for 7-10 days. The wine is then pressed off the skins, using a basket press, into 1,2 and 3 year old French oak barrels to age for 18 months prior to bottling. Minimal fining and filtration are used.

The small patch of Tempranillo is planted next to our winter creek which is lined with figs, quinces and Mulberries. Our B&B cottage overlooks the vines that are planted on a heavy grey-black cracking clay with a topcoat of creek silt.

The vineyard is managed all by hand and only biodynamic practices are used. During  the growing season we only spray herbal teas to that canopy for mildew protection and occasionally irrigate using recycled water.
